Apple ITunes, Intel Pentium, Internet worms and
other news
IT industry and Personal Computer (PC) news July

Internet worm infections are faster. According to Sophos Security firm, there is now a 50 per cent chance
of a PC that hasn't been updated being infected by an internet worm within
12 minutes of connecting to the internet. Now how likely do you think it
is if your computer has not been updated and it is connected to the net
for a day!
Apple iTunes into trends Apple is building more services and functionality into iTunes by putting
together and simplifying its iPod and iPod photo services. They're also
building the functionality of Podcasting into iPods so that people can
automatically download free new podcasts as they arrive.
Microsoft's Sender ID spam fighting technology. Microsoft's services such as Hotmail and MSN will be more agressive
in cutting down on junk mail and removing entire domains from access to
the services by year end. This will mean that if you send from an address
that Microsoft's systems don't recognise, your recipient may never receive
it.
Apple gets Intel Pentium chips Huh? Okay. This section is an opinion piece. While I've always preferred
using a PC instead of a Mac, even though we all know Macs are more reliable,
it is mainly because I'm happy with my system when I use AMD chips. If
you have ever had a computer with an AMD chip you may be wondering what
all this 'crashing' you keep hearing about is. I've had a PC with Intel
and a PC with AMD and no matter what I do to the PC with the AMD, it rarely
ever crashes. I don't know how it works but the chip seems to realise that
there's a conflict and slows the system down until it can sort that conflict
out, then speeds it up again. The Intel chip just stops, causing a system
crash, and usually losing something you've been working on. Now I don't
know whether this is the case in every computer but it certainly does it
for both myself and a few other people in my industry. Obviously there
are other reasons people choose a PC over a Mac, like, for example, choice
of software, but for Apple to choose Intel makes me wonder how they'll
be able to stay different. Choosing AMD would have been a better choice,
methinks.
