IT industry and Personal Computer (PC) news September 2005

AMD Turion 64
Dual processor due early 2006, AMD reported. The chip is low power and is designed for laptops. AMD are in talks with Lenovo and we may soon see AMD chips in many more Lenovo products.

Lenovo sponsors Olympics 2008 and 2012
Lenovo, who bought IBM last year for US$1.75 billion, will begin promoting their sponsorship of the Chinese Olympics in 2008 by encouraging retailers and other resellers of Lenovo products with free trips to the games. So the more Lenovo products you sell, the more likely you can get a chance at a free trip to the games in Beijing. Not sure what sort of tickets you'll get though but it would have to be worthwhile. Also, it's not known whether Lenovo will bring the competition to the general public.

3D for 3G phones
Yes, it's here. Specially designed mobile phone screens that allow you to view your photos, videos and other transmissions in 3D on your mobile phone. But, like watching TV on your mobile, it is probably going to take awhile to take off. We'll keep you posted.

Coming soon. The 2005 Annual Electronic Desktop Solutions newsletter. This we hope to have available as a downloadable pdf.
