1. EDS P/L closed dates.
Well, its that time of year again. Time flies when you're fighting viruses and rewriting websites. So, here are our closed dates for late 2003 early 2004.
While we will still be taking bookings on these days, call outs will be scheduled for the next working day.
25th - 27th December inclusive
31st Dec - 1st Jan inclusive
24th - 26th January inclusive

 2. Peripheral troubleshooting

Ever had a problem with the computer where, after installing something, something else stops working? The quickest way to find if there is a conflict is to look in your device manager.

On most machines it can be found in 'Control Panel' 'System' 'Hardware' 'Device Manager'

If you see any yellow exclamation marks next to a device it means there is a conflict with that device driver.

Reinstall the driver of the device that has developed a conflict. If that doesn't work you may need to call one of us out to take a look at the problem.

3. 3D printers

Behrokh Khoshnevis has developed a revolutionary sintering prototype 3D printer. It currently can print solid plastic letters and other basic objects.

The plan is to create a faster, smaller, cheaper version for the home or office. The possibilities are endless. So, in the future, if you suddenly decide that you want a new solid plastic cover for your mobile, or if your door handle needs
replacing, just 'print' one!

The system works by building layers of plastic or metal then heating the layers together into a solid shape. While there are huge machines that can do this, this is the first time someone has developed something for the home.

Don't hold your breath for it, though. Still in prototype stage it may be another 5 years before people can buy them for the home.

But as soon as they're available, there'll be a whole new industry devoted to 3D designs that can be purchased online and printed from your 3D printer. Print toys, masks, plates and more.

Christmas presents in 2008 could be interesting!

4. 3D Viewer

Genex has developed the Volume Viewer, the first legitimately 3D 360-degree group viewing system that doesn't need any special glasses.

The system has been designed for NASA but, like everything, it will get to the home user soon.

And with the gaming software developers industry taking an interest, you may see the system popping up in a game centre sooner than you think.

Well that's it for this issue. The annual newsletter is now available for download

Everyone at Electronic Desktop Solutions thanks you for your support and we wish you a great holiday season and New Year.

Best regards

The team at EDS P/L
