CESHOW Computer Fair Fox Studios

A review of the CESHOW Computer Fair
Well, after CEbit I can only say that this was a disappointment. At Cebit there were lots of giveaways, free coffee and free entry. But it was trade only.

At the Computer Fair there was only one stall giving away free items to the public, everyone else was selling, there was only one day of trade, and if you weren't trade you had to pay $13 entry.

Ben and I went as trade on the Thursday trade day and personally I was bored. There was about 1-3 metres between each exhibition, unlike CEbit where most stalls were next to each other. There were a very small amount of give-aways, which suggests that the rent that the advertisers had to pay to display was considerable, and most of the focus was home entertainment, which is probably why I was bored.

Plasma screen TV. Also has a video machine installed to keep travellers occupied. You can still ask 'Are we there yet?' during breaks.I personally don't have much interest in the latest computer controlled fridge or why my 4 wheel drive should have 4 video plasma screens on the back of the seats.

The assorted female models that displayed the items or distributed brochures were a nice distraction for the men, but for actually useful items, I couldn't find any.

I'm a big fan of Panasonic equipment but their tragic creation of a supercomputer presenting their items was cringeful to say the least.

The only thing that really interested me was the advances that Sony has made in Aibo, the robot dog. But why display last years model? They were already selling the latest model in Japan, which they should have displayed here.

Most of the items being displayed were already in the public consciousness or being advertised for sale soon elsewhere. If this show was supposed to showcase the latest in technology it was sorely lacking. Especially as some of the magazines I picked up at CEBIT the month before had reviewed much of the technology that had already come out. Models which came AFTER the ones on display at the FOX computer fair.

A tragic scantily clad actress talking to a tragic scantily brained computer program about the scant attention people are paying to Panasonics products in this display. On a lighter note, Channel 10 had a Big Brother display which allowed anyone to check out the webcams available (that they would normally have to pay to see through Iprimus) On the weekend they also had guests from Big Brother (I wasn't there so I don't know how it went) So, I suppose in that regard it would interest quite a large demographic. Of the other items that may interest, like WebTV and the latest mobile technology, I suppose it is true that there is something for everyone. The only problem is that it may only be 1 thing each for everyone.

Ultimately a disappointment and I'll only go next year if it is in Darling Harbour and it is free.
